NASA astronaut Clay Anderson now is anchored at the end of the International Space Station's robot arm, preparing to jettison flight support equipment for a video stanchion.
The 212-pound metal frame is being pulled away from an external stowage platform on the outside of the U.S. Quest airlock. It is being jettisoned to make room on the platform for a dome-shaped U.S. gyroscope that will be flown up to the outpost on a future mission.
Cosmonaut Oleg Kotov is operating the station's 57-foot robot arm from inside the U.S. Destiny laboratory. He'll move Anderson to a point below and behind the aft end of the outpost so that the spacewalker can toss the metal framework overboard.
