Astronaut's father dies

Our sympathies go to Eileen Collins, commander of last summer's mission of shuttle Discovery. Her father was struck and killed by a car in Elmira, N.Y., on Monday, the Associated Press reports. James Collins, 79, who lived in Rochester, was in town to hear his daughter talk at a high school. The accident is still under investigation. Eileen Collins' mother, Rose Marie, died last November.
