The fuel tank that arrived at Kennedy Space Center today began its roll a little while ago and is now nearly in the shelter of the Vehicle Assembly Building. Despite a chilly evening, the mosquitoes were biting as a United Space Alliance driver guided the vehicle pulling the massive transporter that holds the tank. The area where foam has been removed - the protuberance air load or PAL ramp - was clearly visible where pipes and cables run up the side of the tank. Now processing will begin, aiming toward a May launch.
A note on the loud noises that the crew of the ship heard when moving the barge from New Orleans to Florida: no obvious causes of the noises were seen when the tank was inspected today, at least nothing that prevented a relatively quick move from barge to VAB.
