Crews on Sunday moved the full-size orbiter mockup "Explorer" from the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex to a temporary park site near the center's turn basin and Vehicle Assembly Building (image credit: NASA).
The high-fidelity model had been on display at the Visitor Complex since 1993. Now it awaits a barge ride across the Gulf of Mexico to a new home at Space Center Houston.
Explorer's departure makes room for the Visitor Complex to display the retired orbiter Atlantis, an exhibit expected to open in July 2013.
