The company announced the layoffs earlier this month, citing long-standing plans to reduce the workforce as the shuttle program nears retirement next year.
Two more shuttle flights are planned in November and February, and a third could be added next summer.
In total, the Houston-based company said it planned to reduce its staff by about 15 percent in Florida, Texas and Alabama by Oct. 1.
Some of the layoffs will be voluntary. All laid off employees will receive severance compensation and support hunting for new jobs.
Local workforce officials expect that up to 8,000 KSC employees could lose jobs by the time the shuttle program ends.

Help us find a job how? Where? With who? This layoff will cause a total of approximately 24,000 area jobs to be lost, businesses closing, so WHERE are we, 8000 of us, going to work?
Ah, maybe the white house has some openings!
AWWW no more high end government supported welfare! The only people who are unhappy with the end of the shuttle program are the ones losing money because of it. What has it done for the rest of the country in the last 20 years?
They should send the notices using official White House note cards with a caricature sketch of Obama's smiling face on the inside, waving a Russian flag.
I am a local taxpayer, not employed by KSC or Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. It (whatever) is not my fault!

Why is everyone acting so suprised about the layoffs. Space workers have heard the rumors for years that the shuttle would be mothballed. Why are all of you now acting so shocked and unprepared???????
i find out at 3:30 today.........
The thing that ticks me off is this does NOT have to happen. It's not like it's a sign of the times, like Hollywood Video going under because of Nexflix, or the makers of VCRs lose their jobs because of the DVDs. This is a completely voluntary termination of employment. The shuttle program does NOT have to end. These workers do NOT have to lose their jobs. Obama must be getting a kick out of this. (And NO...this was NOT Bush's doing. He recommended it. Obama is implementing it. Obama has complete power to ignore Bush's recommendation to terminate the shuttle program, but he decides to argree with Bush on THIS one thing. Fantastic.)
Hey Mark Lopa .... here's yer culprit. Read it and get a clue. http://history.nasa.gov/Bush%20SEP.htm
"AWWW no more high end government supported welfare! The only people who are unhappy with the end of the shuttle program are the ones losing money because of it. What has it done for the rest of the country in the last 20 years?"
Were you born that stupid, or is it a result of being breastfed as an adult?
This is for the "bright boy" who keeps asking what the Shuttle has done for him in the last 20 years:
After over 100 flights, the benefits to industry, medical research, and to the quality of daily life easily match the number of missions.
More than 100 documented NASA technologies from the Space Shuttle are now incorporated into the tools you use, the foods you eat, and the biotechnology and medicines used to improve your health.
Artificial Heart
Technology used in Space Shuttle fuel pumps led to the development of a miniaturized ventricular-assist pump by NASA and renowned heart surgeon Dr. Michael DeBakey.
Artificial Limbs
Responding to a request from the orthopedic-appliance industry, NASA recommended that the foam insulation used to protect the Shuttle's external tank replace the heavy, fragile plaster used to produce master molds for prosthetics. The new material is light, virtuallyindestructible, and easy to ship and store.
Land Mine Removal
The same rocket fuel that helps launch the Space Shuttle is now beingused to save lives -- by destroying land mines. A flare device, using leftover fuel donated by NASA, is placed next to the uncovered land mine and is ignited from a safe distance using a battery-triggered electric match. The explosive burns away, disabling the mine and rendering it harmless.
Tracking Vehicles on Earth
Tracking information originally used for Space Shuttle missions now helps track vehicles here on the ground.
Keep Cool Under Fire
Materials from the Space Shuttle thermal protection system are used on NASCAR racing cars to protect drivers from the extreme heat generated by the engines. This same material is also used to protect firefighters.
Ok whinny-butt what ya gonna do when you have to drive 10 miles for beer because the local stores closed because everyone left.
You've gotten a lot for your faction of a penny out of your tax dollars so shut up.
So there are at least three people here who are using Gov't resources or time to comment on their losing of their jobs, Hmm........Guess you'll just have to move to a different part of the country for a job. I hear Fargo ND is booming right now! Or are you too good for that?
WOW!!! Some of you people are just heartless!!!! Didn't your parents ever teach you if you don't have anything nice to say...don't say anything at all. That includes blogging comments. The space program, by the way, has probably done more for the entire WORLD in the past 20 years than any elected official has.
Looking forward to the people coming to town and working for one third of what they made and will have to work all day. Good Luck
Nobody cries foul unless it's happening to them.
These workers weren't complaining when they were raking in top dollars and so many others suffered...for being in similar circumstances.
If you're laid off, you have only one choice.........which is to pick yourself up and start over. Good luck.
I love when people say that NASA or its contractors have done nothing for them. Maybe they should give up that computer they are typing on cause best bets that the plastics used in it were developed from a NASA spin off. Or take that helmet off their kid playing little league football because that shock absorbing foam was developed by a NASA spin off. Or get rid of that satellite TV your glued to because without NASA it doesn't exist. There are thousands of other examples. NASA and space travel is not just about setting off big rockets and having fun floating around in space!
Anonymous at 10:37 -- "What has it done for the rest of the country in the last 20 years?"
If you're the kind of person who actually has to ask, I strongly suspect you're also the type who wouldn't care even if we listed out every single new technology, many of which you use every day. You're really just looking for an excuse to whine. Anyone who really does understand the importance of the space program doesn't need to ask that question. We already know.
The space program is socialism. Plain in simple.
If space exploration is so important.... why does the government need to subsidize it so much?
If private enterprise and, most importantly, privet money, want to blast people in to space - god bless them - but, it is not the role of the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT to do such "explorations" on the tax payers dime!!
not to worry.
the stimuli fund will create thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of jobs for the dismissed space workers.
All those advancements came during development. Now we will get more new products during this new development stage. NASA has actually been given more money to make new stuff. Out with old in with new. You will get you job back in a couple of years.
1968 de-ja-vu all over again ........
"If space exploration is so important.... why does the government need to subsidize it so much?
If private enterprise and, most importantly, privet money, want to blast people in to space - god bless them - but, it is not the role of the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT to do such "explorations" on the tax payers dime!!"
Atleast NASA provides a return of investment to the Government...unlike most other social welfare programs that only cost more money...hehem "the welfare program" which helps kids whose parents are too lazy to help and foster success in schools...these parents live life in and out of jail setting the tone for their kids. (this is by no means a knock at everyone on welfare...only the ones who abuse it ie no return on investment).
Also, did you know the government will be paying partly for the commercialization of a private space program...or that NASA is not allowed to accept payment of sponsorship from private companies who would invest in us...or that NASA is not allowed to market themselves or their accomplishments.
Other countries laugh at US for giving up on the things that make them a "good country" and a "good example" instead we promote scandals and wonder why the world hates us.
When thousands of people loose their jobs the impact to the local economy does not end there. Many other businesses and individuals will feel the impact as the thousands laid off at KSC will be moving elsewhere or cutting way back on the products and services they buy from the rest of us. To those who call the manned space flight program a welfare operation, you have excrement for brains.
Anonymous @ 11:21, as a matter of fact I was born "stupid" but I would also contend so is every other person on the face of the planet! I don't know anyone born coming out doing calculus or playing chess I bet even Steven Hawking was "stupid" as a baby. As for breast feeding as an adult.....that just doesn't make any sense. Your defense to the fact that NASA has no practical benifit anymore is to resort to calling names. Wow are you in politics?
As for Anonymous @ 11:23 well my own heart works fine, I don't have any artificial limbs, never stepped on a land mine, I know how to drive and how to get where I'm going so I don't need a GPS, and I haven't watched a NASCAR race in my life so all your points are irrelevent to me. Also on a personal note I don't drink beer so I could care less how far you have to drive to get to a bar! Sorry if you don't like reality but your arguments don't hold up! You think there would be no technological advances in the world without NASA? Please government contractors have been developing products for years, and now so are private industry, not for the space program but to augment it!!! You guys are clowns.
All those that lose their jobs I am truely sorry but this is not a suprise, it's not news that this was coming. And funding a program just so a few overpaid people can have a job is what's wrong with this country. It has to stop!!!
All they have to do is relocate to another facility in another state. They have more options then most people that have been or will be laid-off. Hopefully, most of you were fully vested. I'm thabnkful for all the technology we have acommplished over the years but do we still need to be in space? The more we search other planets the more we will invade someone elses territory.
Ignore the heartless jerks who show their true colors through anonymity. Just to let you know that others out there see your plight and feel compasion. I live in the area, I am employed as an engineer but not at KSC and I will be unaffected by the space program. I see this as a group of highly qualified, hard working engineers that supported some of the countries greatest science and engineering feats are about to lose their jobs. If you are getting laid off, I pray for good things and a good job unfolds for you soon.
Why is it whenever we talk about NASA we have to list "spinoffs" in order to justify its existence?
Why don't we have to list the "spinoffs" of all the other Federal departments?
Take a look at this chart showing the budgets of all the departments. http://www.federalbudget.com/chart.gif
NASA's budget is just a pimple on the butt of other departments budgets. Hell, you could DOUBLE NASA's budget and it wouldn't compare to some others.
What about the trillions in so-called "stimulus" funds? They were supposed to be for job creation, right? Why not give NASA a few billion and keep thousands of extremely skilled workers on the job.
This in turn would keep local businesses from closing and so on.
"So much to do, in Titusville.... " Sing with me...
Job losses are a fact of life. Been there and done that and did not have the "guvment" to fix it for me.
At least they're getting a severance package and unemployment benefits...better than has happened for lots of other folks in this recession.
Bikerchick great response......if you don't know I'm not going to tell you! Idiot! There was one poster who said something right....Contractors!!!! Does NASA make those wonderful plastics in the computers or those life saving foams in football helmets? NO!! NASA doesn't, their contractors do and guess what if it's a product that has practical application in the public or other government sector it will be developed......with or without NASA!! Why does the government have to fund this? Private industry doesn't want to? Or it doesn't see a need to?
Ilost my job four weeks ago - and no, it wasn't a space center job. Guess now that there's all these other people trying to get the jobs that aren't out there, my hopes of finding a job, any job, are gone.
I'd love to be working right now. At anything. Can't get an interview, I'm overqualified for those low-end jobs that posters keep referring to and the people doing the hiring won't call.
How Ignorant can so many Americans be. NASA is the only PRIDE this Nation has left. We don't manufacture anything in the US anymore, even our Ford's are made in Mexico and Canada. You folks that are there complaining about the cost of NASA are the same one's that are always there for a government handout, are there suing our doctor's, or suing any company because you were too ignorant to know that "that coffee was hot", or that medication made me throw up, or my kid fell off the ladder(where they should not of been in the first place), the list goes on.
If you were to take the whole NASA Space Budget for one year, it would run your Welfare Programs currently in place for only about 18 hours. Do the math....(Ohhh, I'm sorry you can't do math).
Folks, this is America, we need to keep NASA, it is all we have left. Have some pride in being an American, the American flag goes up every time on the shuttle. I don't want to only see the Russian, Chinese, Korean flags going up.
One more thing to make you happy, as of the end of the shuttle program, we Americans will not have any more ASTRONAUTS, ZERO. They will all be COSMONAUTS.
That makes you all proud paying the Russians to fly our American cosmonauts to the International Space Station we built, doesn't it?
Two years ago:
"Let me be clear," the president said, "we cannot cede our leadership in space. That's why I am going to close the gap, ensure that our space program doesn't suffer when the shuttle goes out of service."
His goal was "making sure that all of those who work in the space industry in Florida do not lose their jobs when the space shuttle is retired because we cannot afford to lose their expertise." article by John Kelly FlaToday August 2009.
I am sorry to anyone who lost their job, it is an aweful and stressful thing to have to go through. But I've also got an issue with tax payer money going to fund all these programs. I was working in Orlando 8 years ago and got laid off, the company was bought and moved out of state, where were the congressman fighting to stop that where were the retraining programs where was the help for me and my coworkers? It wasn't there, we had to do what people have had to do when they lose a job, get out there and find a new one. Guess having a government funded job gives you more entitlement.
I don't care if you support the space program or not, the result of the 8,000 people who are going to lose thier jobs from the space center. Are going to be felt by everyone living anywhere around the area. The former space workers are no longer going to be able to support the local econmy. The result of the space jobs that are lost will have a ripple effect that could easily put 20,000 or more people in the unemployment line. So, for all of you that think it is a good thing that the program is ending and remember that when it is you standing in the unemployment line trying to find a way to feed your family.
Good luck to these folks. You better start looking far and wide - and fast - for suitable employment. Once you hit the six month point it becomes almost hopeless.
Even with the best education and experience, there are just not many jobs out there for aerospace engineers, technicians and business people. You can quickly look forward to the "those on unemployment are lazy and don't really want to work" crowd". And the same is going to happen for the rest of this community.
You can lower your standard of living fast, eliminate as many unnecessary expenditures, deplete your life savings. Then you can join the million or so that are in foreclosure.
Welcome to the realities of living in America in 2010 - as part of the 50% on the lower end of the economy.
Good luck, seriously...
I love the person's comment that said that the Space Center Workers were raking in the money. My husband is and has been an employee of USA for over 10 years now and believe me when I tell you that you are mistaken. He does not rake in the dough. He like so many others at the Space Center depend on their paychecks. You people who are happy about the end of the Space Program evidently have no heart nor any idea of what you are talking about. It would be like Orlando losing Disney or Daytona losing Nascar. The employees would not be the only ones suffering the entire area would feel the sting. Thanks for all your compassion and next time that you feel the need to blog about something you don't have any idea about try to look at the big picture and what is really at stake.
Just got a job today with WM, yes the garbage collection people. Took me over a year to get the position and I started out at $27 an hour. Well below the $46.00 per hour I was making at NASA as a cryogenic fluids engineer.
So I'll pick up your trash and be glad I can keep my home and feed my family. Of course there won't be any luxuries but then again my family is the greatist luxury in the world.
I don't need a government bureaucrat telling me what and how to live like so many Americans have relegated themselves to relying upon.
I will support my own and do whatever it takes to do just that, even if it means picking up stinking trash!!!
Anonymous @ 12:49 I've never sued anyone, collected welfare or any government handout, and I can do math. In fact I'm outraged at all the government hand outs that this administration is currently throwing around. And I hate to break your heart but NASA is just another government hand out! You are right this is America and if you think NASA ia all we have left please when the shuttles stop flying by all means leave the country and don't come back. As for being Astronauts vs Cosmonauts that's the problem with the world, intolerance!! It means the same thing!!!! It's just not YOUR word for it so it's not right. Grow up!!!
Obama is for privatizing? why only space? why not privatize EVERYTHING ... no post office, no welfare, no medicare ... oops ... those mean votes? space means votes too ...
So Anonymous 5,295 is trying to put me in my place? Sorry friend...grab some stones and use your name or don't waste your time with your links because I'm not going to waste my time looking.
Ah, how I am going to miss my daily strolls to the HQ cafeteria for my 1 hour breakfast and later for my 2 hr lunch, then visit to the Credit union next and ogle the pretty women there. Afterward, I amble over to the O&C building and jabber jaw with my drinking buddies for an hour or so, then mosey over to the pond to feed the gators. Of course I have to be in the office a couple hours a day so I can finish the day off with a hardy round of Free Cell......And end of an era.....
Whether you agree or disagree with the Space Program, the fact remains that thousands of people are losing their jobs. It would be great if they could all find jobs in their experienced fields. That will not happen. And to the guy who wonders what the space program has done for him---You're an idiot and seem to be very bitter.
Anonymous @ 1306, you are very lucky if they are paying you what you say they are, your spelling is horrid for a supposed "engineer"
Just like the comment at 1:46, "Anonymous @ 1306, you are very lucky if they are paying you what you say they are, your spelling is horrid for a supposed "engineer"" Most engineers at NASA don't make $46 per hour, engineers are on salary and if you calculate and divide, most are making allot more than the "Union" Cryogenics Wan-a-be Engineer. Yes, you were making about $46/hour, thanks to your Union, the engineers don't have a union and there is no way they make that much. As a matter of fact, I think you are making too much as a garbage collector at $27, you were probably too lazy to even finish high school, you should actually be getting about $12. Good luck with your garbage collection, that is pretty good money, more than most starting engineers at NASA or any other industry, petrochemical, automotive, etc. The one's that are making that much are the un-educated thinking the everyone owe's to them and at the same time hate everyone else.
As you stated, it is evident that you don't care about being proud of being an American. You speak so loud. Bet you haven't even served your country in the military, I did, twenty-years. So you have the right that you are enjoying. I lived and served through Vietnam, Desert Storm, etc. Have you. I Am Proud, I am Proud of our Flag, I feel that we have failed America when there is such ignorance as yours, that all you care about is yourself, invent titles to make you sound good, I agree that the only thing you are qualified for is picking up garbage. Good luck, I hope that in your fortunate new career, there isn't many US Flags in your truck. People like you just want to be in a socialist society, and unfortunately, you're suceeding.
I amazes me how people confuse the contributions of NASA with the contributions of the Shuttle program. Many of the technologies developed by NASA were not developed for Shuttle, but are very useful. There certainly are some technologies developed for Shuttle that are useful, but not as many as people believe.
Anonymous 12:49 PM
Companies leave the US because we (the consumer) want less expensive products. The textile industry left because we wanted $20.00 jeans, electronic manufacturers left because we want $100 DVD players and $500 laptops. So look no further than the mirror to see who drove industry out of the USA.
Well Mr Lopa, the link is to your hero Bush declaring an end to the shuttle program back in 2004. I wouldn't expect you to let facts get in the way of a good glass of kool-aid.
Now those getting laid-off are going to need the Public Option Health Care program that they managed to defeat when they thought it would only hurt the rest of us.
NASA is nothing more than a GLORIFIED SOCIAL WELFARE PROGRAM.
If we aren't allowed to have PUBLIC OPTION HEALTH CARE then we don't need this Social Welfare Program called the Space Program which just helps out the few.
I have lived in Brevard County for the last thirty years, and have many relatives and friends who work there. I think it would be fair to say that none of them are hurting themselves working out there. In other words its basically a free ride. Might not be what you want to hear, but the truth hurts.
They will begin the fall like so many of us. My lifestyle went from standard middle class to poor within months. No jobs means no money. Even those of us who were prepared financially for a typical recession were blindsided by the crash that our govt caused. So after a couple years we're broke, living like I have never had to live, barely. Living week to week, some weeks no food, some weeks no gas for the car. Never lived high, just plain middle American who saved and now thats gone. Its really bad out here people. Welcome to the other side. Life & health insurance goes first. Negotiating with creditors is imperative to stay in your home. No travel, no shopping, no nothing. Not even affording the necessities. Its brutal.
I have lived in areas before that rely mainly on one industry. Believe me WE WILL ALL BE AFFECTED. Not one persons job on the Space Coast is assured. The trickle down affect of this will sooner or later impact each and every one of us. So before everyone begins to gloat that this was expected, yada yada yada, better look closely at what you do and how it will be impacted. If you think it cant get worse or in the words of our President, that we are over the hump, you are in for a rough time. It is only just beginning here. Business after business will fold and jobs? Gone!!
If your renting....get out. If you own a home, walk away and get out. Forget everything you have ever been taught about saving a home at all costs. Just flee. You cant sell anyway.
America, get accustomed to seeing these kinds of headlines………you have thrown in the towel and conceded the leadership role in space. Just wait until you read “Middle East Leads New Endeavors in Space Exploration”, or “Russian Cosmonaut Takes First Steps on Martian Planet”, but don’t worry, you’ll be able to watch it all live from The Flame Trench after about two years of US funding of the Russian space program. Thanks for the new launch facility!!! GO RUSSIA!!! WE'RE NUMBER 1!!!!!
I love watching all these people complain about the space program and we "socialized workers". Don't you people realize what's going to happen to towns like Titusville, Port St. John, M.I. when these large layoffs happen and there are no more jobs left...we're leaving, not because we want to, but because we will be forced to find jobs matching our technical skill sets in other places. Yes the waterfall of money from the gov't flows into our paychecks but do you really think we just hoard our money away..no we spend most of it at local restaurants, car dealers, houses, home repair & maintenance, veterinarians, grocery stores, medical clinics, pharmacies and the list goes on. We put our kids in your school systems, WE PAY TAXES!! Don't you guys get it, the money flows back into the local economies that support most of your livelihoods as well, so I don't understand why you want us gone so bad. How loud will you scream at your politicians then when 8,000 + opportunities for your income just disappear, and don't count on private rocketeers bringing a bunch of jobs down here for a long time. Check out SpaceX's website and see how many jobs they have posted for FL, and ask anyone who went to the job fairs what the main question was they got asked...would you be able to relocate....to CA. We love our jobs, our work, space, and are proud with the accomplishments that we are a part of. You space haters, if you live in central FL, especially on the East coast, really need to wake up, step back, and really take a hard look at the dire straits this local economy is in.
Remember ...he who has the high ground wins...plain and simple
Reading these posts makes me laugh! Sorry 'bout that, but you guys sound so much like every other bunch of workers who face job uncertainties, convinced that you are special and your jobs are unique. NOT!
Don't you just hate it when Antagonist shows up and starts his predictable rants? Really, Antag, we understand how you feel. You don't have to post over and over about it, saying the same thing time after time. It gets old.
its not just the space workers that are going to be hurt by this. I own my own buisness and we are barely making it now. I am so afraid of what will happen to our community after 8000 lay offs plus those that are expected to then lose jobs in the community because 8000 less people will be spending. IT WILL HURT ALL OF US, NOT JUST THE SPACE PROGRAM.....so those of you calling NASA a glorified Welfare System....DON'T YOU DARE COMPLAIN WHEN YOUR FAVORITE STORE OR RESTARAUNT CLOSES DOWN BECAUSE OF THIS!
Why so much hate
There seems to be a lot of comments here negative towards the space program and space center workers comming from a community who has a big chunck of their lively hood made off the money those workers spend in Brevard County. I no longer live in Brevard nor work at the space center, but I'm still making money and spending it elsewhere and so will everybody else who works there eventually. Its everybody left in Brevard that will feel the real fallout from the end of the space program.
Just do the math, say only 5000 get canned at average salary of $50k a year that's $250 million dollars taken out of local economy! I like to see how county and local cities are going to keep funding current operations come end of next year with much less revenue and property values still tanking...Federal bail outs are going to end too...It's just starting to get interesting.
"If space exploration is so important.... why does the government need to subsidize it so much?
If private enterprise and, most importantly, privet money, want to blast people in to space - god bless them - but, it is not the role of the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT to do such "explorations" on the tax payers dime!!"
Um......That's EXACTLY what government is for. There's no commercial return on investment for sending folks into space. There's no oil, gold, or farmland up there. If you want to explore space, its upto the government to fund it. Plane and simple. You can claim new "private space" wants to do it, but their only customer will still be the government. So call it what you will.
The Middle East already owns us, Bush Amplified the Israeli - Palestinian conflict by invading Iraq.
The US Tax Payers were saddled with that war, what everyone forgot is that the Tax Dollars that were supposed to be used for Space Exploration is now in the Defense Contractor Bank Accounts for weapons.
We literally give away 30 Billion Dollars a year just to Israel and they pay for their Universal Health Care with half of it and the rest comes back to US Defense Contractors buying weapons from them.
It's not really buying when the US Tax Payers gave them the money. Israel is now joined by Iraq and Afghanistan in milking us dry.
This Money Laundering Scam is breaking our country.
The next time you hear the term "Middle East Peace Initiative" just think Giant-Rip-Off and you will know why we don't have any money for Space.
Thank our Bought-Off Corporate Owned Politicians for that.
By the way, the Heritage Foundation is behind the whole thing.
Now if they would just RIF some NASA folks too...
The chopping block has been set and the axe is falling.
Many more to follow.
Don't be afraid.
There may hope and life after.
Have you made preparations ?
Too many good workers are being cut. Just sad for them and their families.
How the Hell will NASA layoff cause a total of approximately 24,000 area jobs to be lost, businesses closing. Doubtful since there are approx. 536,357 people who live in Brevard County and many work in other counties beside the space coast. Most of Brevard county has been a dump for decades with boarded up shops and abandoned bldgs. The only difference will be the areas where these KSC employees leave their nice homes in foreclosure & look like the rest of Brevard county. Affordable homes now "For Sale" Time to start a real estate business & ride the wave to the housing recovery.
Newspaper front pages should read:
Obama, Senate and Congress force layoff of over 1000 aerospace workers!
Extending the Space Shuttle Program to 2016 would have saved 25,000 jobs! This event shows Obama, Senate and Congress does not care about jobs.
This is not for employees of United Space Alliance. Govt should provide the alternate solution to the employees.
What will the Florida Today do when there are only the retired left in Brevard County and they only read it to see if their name is in the obituary?
I use the Florida Today to line the bottom of the bird cage. My canary doesn't see too good since he flew into the ceiling fan so the content isn't a factor.
Known of my family works at the space center, but a ton of my friends fathers and mothers do. Half of them are moving away because they can't find jobs in the area to support their families. It is heart breaking to see how many selfish people are really out there. Just because it doesn't affect YOU personally doesn't mean it doesn't affect the people around you! The space center has given us more than jobs and awesome rocket launches, the workers there have made amazing strides in todays technology and discoveries of other planets then just our own. Their satellites are the reason we have cell phones and television and anything that we us in our day to day life that requires satellite signal. This place is going to be completely empty by the of this.
Does anyone know what organization the affected employees will be working with to transition to another company? Is it Lee HechtHarrison? I am an HR professional for a large Science Company that is hiring Engineers in Houston.
Feel free to respond directly to my personal account epalazio@hotmail.com
thanks. And good luck to all those involved in the transition.
