Falcon 9 first stage at Cape for NASA demonstration mission

NASA and SpaceX are targeting the second week of September for the first in a series of missions intended to demonstrate a capability to deliver cargo to the International Space Station.

The rocket's roughly 100-foot long first-stage arrived at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station late last week on a truck from Texas.

The first flight under NASA's Commercial Orbital Transportation Services program, or COTS, and will attempt to orbit and recover a fully functional Dragon spacecraft for the first time.

After two or three demonstration flights, SpaceX plans to fly 12 station resupply missions under a $1.6 billion contract.
