At a weather briefing about 6:30 a.m., Shuttle Weather Officer Kathy Winters advised Launch Director Mike Leinbach that weather conditions are green for launch.
However, overall a 60 percent chance of unfavorable conditions continues until the 11:38 a.m. launch. Forecasters were concerned that showers or low clouds could move over the launch pad at launch time.
A mid-morning shower would not delay the launch if it cleared in time, said NASA spokesman John Ira Petty. The shuttle could launch safely after being wet by a rainstorm.
Wednesday's forecast also has a 60 percent chance of unfavorable conditions for launch.
