The seven astronauts destined to launch aboard shuttle Discovery still are aiming to fly to Kennedy Space Center today, but Tropical Storm Alberto is prompting a slight change in plans.
A final weather briefing will be held at 4 p.m., but the crew intends to fly to KSC in a Grumman Gulfstream 2 aircraft rather than T-38 training jets.
"The T-38 is too light an aircraft to navigate through a tropical storm," said KSC spokesman George Diller.
Led by veteran mission commander Steve Lindsey, the crew is expected to arrive at the KSC Shuttle Landing Facility about 6 p.m. The astronauts plan to take part in a practice countdown for their launch, which remains scheduled for July 1.
