Trash-Filled Freighter Departs Space Station

A robotic Russian space freighter cast off from the International Space Station today, making way for another Progress cargo carrier that is scheduled to launch Wednesday from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

The departing Progress vehicle is filled with trash and will make a destructive dive back through the atmosphere in early September.

The Progress set to launch Wednesday is due to arrive at the International Space Station at 10:38 a.m. Friday. Live NASA TV coverage of the final approach and docking will be broadcast live here in The Flame Trench. Click the NASA TV box on the right to launch our NASA TV viewer.
