The weather forecast for the planned launch Friday of NASA's 135th and final shuttle mission worsened today -- meteorologists now say there is a 70 percent chance rain showers or isolated thunderstorms will keep Atlantis and its four astronauts grounded.
Liftoff remains set for 11:26 a.m., the middle of a 10-minute opportunity to put the shuttle and its crew on course for a rendezvous and docking at the International Space Station.
An initial forecast issued Tuesday called for a 60 percent chance weather would prohibit launch. The forecast issued today worsened to 70 percent.
The outlook for the weekend worsened also. There is a 60 percent chance weather would prohibit launch on Saturday and a 40 percent chance conditions would not be acceptable on Sunday.
