Tucson students will speak to Kelly

Schoolmates of a 9-year-old Tucson girl killed in the same shooting that critically wounded U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will talk to Endeavour commander Mark Kelly, Giffords' husband, late Sunday.

Christina Taylor-Green was one of six people killed the Jan. 8 rampage at a Giffords constituent event that left the Arizona congresswoman with a gunshot wound to the head. Twelve others were wounded.

At 10:45 p.m. EDT Sunday, Kelly and mission specialist Mike Fincke will talk to approximately 400 Mesa Verde Elementary School students from kindergarten through fifth grade. Taylor-Green was a third-grader who had been elected to the student council.

NASA says the focus of the educational event is learning how the unique environment of space helps advance scientific discovery and exploration.

Giffords watched Kelly and Endeavour launch Monday from Kennedy Space Center.

Two days later she reportedly underwent successful surgery to replace part of her skull according to Kelly, who has stayed in touch with family members and doctors during Endeavour's flight.
