Atlas V-Mini Shuttle Launch Set For 3:50 P.M.

The U.S. Air Force today released the exact launch time for a mini military shuttle being lofted aboard an Atlas V rocket at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station: 3:50 p.m.

The service previously had announced the time for the opening of today's launch window: 3:39 p.m. The back end of the window is not being released. But all indications are that the window does not extend beyond 6 p.m.

Liftoff will take place at Launch Complex 41 at the air base.

United Launch Alliance officials said they are aware of the failure earlier today of an Orbital Sciences Corp. Taurus rocket after launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base. But the Atlas V launch from the Cape is not expected to be impacted.

The weather for tody's launch remains iffy. There is a 70 percent chance windy weather or electrically charged clouds will keep the rocket on the ground.
