Last Set Of Shuttle Booster Segments Arrives At KSC

NASA's last set of shuttle solid rocket booster segments arrived on Florida's Space Coast today after a cross-country railroad ride from an ATK factory in Utah.

The solid rocket booster segments are designated for STS-335, the Launch-On-Need mission that would be flown if Endeavour is severely damaged during NASA's last scheduled shuttle mission, STS-134, now scheduled for launch in late November.

The last leg of the trip started earlier today in Jacksonville, and the train arrived at NASA's Jay Jay rail yard north of Titusville. The yard is located at the intersection of the Florida East Coast Railway and the NASA Railroad. The rail cars will be pulled across the Indian River and onto Kennedy Space Center grounds late today or early tomorrow.

The boosters will be stacked in the Vehicle Assembly Building for a possible rescue mission. NASA officials are lobbying to use them to launch a final supply run to the International Space Station if no rescue is required.

U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Florida, told President Obama in a letter Wednesday that he intended to request funding for the extra mission. NASA hopes to get a go-ahead for the flight by late June. The mission, if approved, likely would be launched in June 2011.

why have an extra flight? just to keep the pork project running another couple of months? have these grifters not fattened themselves up enough off of government checks all these years? the hell with them, no extra flights, cut them off

Should extend the Space Shuttle to 2016. Keep 25,000 workers employed. Why have them on unemployment. Keep U.S. tax dollars in the U.S. and do not pay Russia for Soyuz flights.
Is Obama the President of Russia or the U.S. ?

Why have an extra flight? Well, the hardware is there, and it will have been processed fairly far along anyway to support a LON flight, so might as well just finish it out and go all the way. That's why.

WAKE UP - DO YOU NOT KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS TO AMERICA? IF YOU DON'T LIKE AMERICA - WE CAN HELP YOU PACK.

So, if you live in the space coast area, what do you do for a living? I pray for you that it's not anything or anywhere within 40 miles of the KSC area. Or, are you one of our retired yankees that is spending our government money already.

It's never easy to accept change but until NASA creates the technology necessary to build the next generation of space vehicles then the use of systems like Atlas, Delta, and others will be our tools we use. Extending the Shuttle is the wrong thing to do but the politicians who got us in this pickle still want you to think they know what's best. They've got most of you snookered and lead you around like sheep to the slaughter.

I agree with Ano #1 100%. Perfectly stated. Keep the shuttle flying and then get rid of Obama. The world only needs one president of Russia....or China...or which ever country he loves over ours.
