Times For President's Visit To Kennedy Space Center Firmed Up

The times for President Obama's space summit at Kennedy Space Center on Thursday have been firmed up and are slightly different than originally confirmed by the White House.

Flying in Air Force One, President Obama will arrive at the KSC Shuttle Landing Facility at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. He will deliver a major space policy address at 2:45 p.m. and depart the space center at 3:45 p.m., White House officials said today.

NASA officials said a group of people from industry, academia and government would attend the space summit, but no detailed list with the names of the attendees was immediately available.

The space summit will be broadcast live on NASA TV as well as here in The Flame Trench. Click the NASA TV box on the right side of the page to launch our NASA TV viewer and live coverage.

In all seriousness...could someone explain to me why most people seem to be upset at the President.

If he had simply said that the U.S. would continue with the previous administration's space policy wouldn't the Shuttle and all of those jobs be lost anyway. And even if Constellation was kept, wouldn't we be relying on the Soviets to take us to the Station until Ares was ready?

it's not important to him. he doesn't give a rip for the space program. what a shame!

On the good news side, he is not going to see the Atlas rocket
like he had planed. Smart move on his part, if it's bad news you don't really want to stay where your not wanted. He must get back to Washington to get some more of that change he said he would bring to our country. I sure am glad the unions said this is the guy we need to support, way to go IAM.

Only 200 management types will be allowed to watch his majesty in the O&C building. The others will have to stand at attention in the parking lot a mile away since the parking lots must be evacuated also.

SUCKERS - YOU GOT THE CHANGE YOU VOTED FOR - ENJOY

The drama queens really need to get a grip.

They seem to think the President should spend the day giving each and every one of them a kiss on the behind.

The last President to actually address KSC workers was Reagan, and that was just after Shuttle went operational.

These people act as if they're at the center of the universe. You are an employee. Just like the rest of us are in the real world. This is how real-world employees are treated. I'm amazed at how certain people seem to think they're entitled to be treated better than the rest of us because you happen to have a meatball logo or a USA logo on your paycheck.

And no, the President didn't "kick you out of the building." The Secret Service makes security decisions, not the President.

If Obama is staying on course it will hurt this county and economy. Anyone who thinks they will not be touched need to look at the value of their home (if they own one) and imagine what it will be worth once 6000 more homes are on the market in Brevard County. Just that piece is sobering enough. If you think Obama is just hurting the people at the space center you are a shortsighted idiot.

One hour visit. Talk about photo op. "I support the Space Program" "My, look at the time, gotta go boys!" He won't stay because he does not want to look everyone in the eyes as they lose their jobs because of him selling out to the Russians and canning the moon project. Wonder if he might stop by the United Space Alliance buidling and ask them how the 100 plus layoffs went today? Yep welcome to Brevard County Mr. President. Thank you very much for helping us out with our 12% unemployment by creating more jobs. Rest assured everyone in his presence will be "pro supporters" and screened to react as such to his telepromter speech. What a joke. Dont let the door to Air Force One hit you in the butt on the way out sir...

It does not look encouraging for the Space Program.

it just goes to show the mentality of the majority who voted for him. can't get any lower than that. it's only going to get worse.

The man has a schedule to keep folks.. priorities.. he has a hot fund raiser in Miami for the dems at Gloria's house at $30,000 a plate to attend too.. this is NO JOKE.. for real...

This man and his donky's are hell bent, and are fundamentally changing this country.. we are no different.. If you don't have a NASA meatball on your pay check.. the door is that way by December>>> of course we have our loyal NASA folks posting here with great praises for the man behind the curtain.. the Great and powerful OZ...

We ain't in Kansas anymore folks... we need this administration impeached.. it will go down in history as the most distructive and worse president we ever had.. Count on it...

Who remembers the TV show Laugh-In?.... famous last words for our space program from this Hopey Changey flip flopper "say goodnight Dick"

To the person who commented at 4:04pm....

It's the mentality of persons such as yourself that is concrete proof that we need to chlorinate the gene pool.

No one is asking for a handout. MOST of the aerospace employees work hard. They dedicate their days/nights/weekends/to launch these shuttles/rockets, along with recovering them. Keep in mind that the GOVERNMENT created the space program. Not the employees.

Also, the president passed through Brevard county during his bid for office...and stated that he would "close the gap" between shuttle retirement and Constellation. He closed the gap all right...by eliminating it. Just another campaign promise by just another professional politician. Welcome to change...

In the short time he has been in office, I have been able to watch my career (26 years) go down the tubes; the nation accrue another 1.4 Trillion dollars in deficit; the United States to teeter on the verge of bankruptcy; instead of him and Congress fixing problems that all ready exist, he/they create another abortion called OBAMA-CARE. Welcome to change...

More transparancy
"NASA officials said a group of people from industry, academia and government would attend the space summit, but no detailed list with the names of the attendees was immediately available"

Anonymous said...

here's some more transparancy at the Nuclear Summit -

Obama's official schedule for Tuesday would have pleased China's Central Committee. Excerpts: "The President will attend the Heads of Delegation working lunch. This lunch is closed press . . . The President will meet with Prime Minster Erdogan of Turkey. This meeting is closed press. . . . The President will attend Plenary Session II of the Nuclear Security Summit. This session is closed press."

Reporters, even those on the White House beat for two decades, said it was the most restrictive set of meetings they had ever seen in Washington. They complained to both the administration and White House Correspondents' Association, which will discuss the matter Wednesday with White House press secretary Robert Gibbs.

The restrictions have become a common practice for the Obama White House.

What the hell does living in a trailer park have anything to do with the quality or technology level of the jobs being performed in Brevard county?? Perhaps if you didn't have your nose so far up in the air or up our President's a$$ you'd understand what the loss of these jobs is going to do to the economy in Flordia and to a lesser extent for the rest of the country. I have no misgivings that some of the jobs being lost may be for the better in the long run, but that doesn't go for everyone. As is the case with most liberals, it's just easier to group everyone into one simple category so their little minds can wrap around a thought.

I guess we can see which way the wind will be blowing Thursday. Workers have been instructed to remove any traces of Constellation from the area in the O&C where the president will be speaking....I also find interesting that he can spend 3 days at a nuclear summit, but only 2 hrs at a space systems summit (some of which will be delivering the warheads), cuz he has to get to Miami for a Democratic fund raiser. Interesting priorities.

I'm sure those who repeatedly call the workers at KSC who have engineering degrees, and training as technicians worthless are in fact themselves losers who never amounted to anything.

Yes. Those who work at KSC have the right and the obligation to challenge their boss about his plans, and to expect transparency, not a teleprompter and photo op. Why should the President displace the workers for his 1 hr photo op? I don't care if it's the Secret Service, or the Pope's protectors, it takes pure arrogance to strip down the Orion references in the high bay, kick all the workers out save the handpicked cheerleaders, and come in on a chariot like a king.

To those who think KSC isn't any better than anywhere else, or entitled to anymore respect...or that they are being unreasonable, why don't you leave Brevard and go somewhere else because this county exists BECAUSE of the U.S. Space Program.

Don't ever call anyone a worthless American - especially those who work at the Cape.

As a KSC worker, and an American, this is an out and out slap in our face.

He visits a Federal Government institution, on a very secure base, where all workers undergo background checks.. and he treats us like the ENEMY?

"I also find interesting that he can spend 3 days at a nuclear summit, but only 2 hrs at a space systems summit ..."

Let's see ... A meeting with world leaders to avoid nuclear Armageddon and nuclear material fallling into the hands of terrorists who want to blow up American cities, versus a speech telling us what we already know about his budget proposal.

Yep, sounds like his priorities are right to me.

Again ... You people are not the center of the universe. The more you act like it, the less sympathy you're going to have from outsiders like me. You have this attitude of entitlement like you're some sort of royalty. You're not. You have a cool job, but that doesn't entitle you to dictate to the President how he governs the country and what he does with his time.

Brevard county will be no more while waiting on the next phase of the space program. NASA will be turning over the ISS to the Russians as only means of getting astronauts to it. Who says they will honor the contract that they just signed for $50 million per astronaut for the trip to the ISS; they will have the US by the short hairs and can do whatever they want.
To the idiot who thinks that all checks are signed by NASA needs to talk to Boeing, Harris, Lockeed, and United Space Alliance (USA) as those are the employees who will be losing their jobs. For every layoff at KSC, it will effect 2 jobs in the private sector,i.e. the general population ~ Joe the Plumber. It will not only effect KSC but also Johnson outside of Houston, another 9 or 10 thousand jobs lost, with massive fall out to a town which is already suffering do to the oil situation, but Obama has a fix for that, ruin the beaches and kill of fishing grounds and pollute the oceans.
HOPE EVERYONE LIKES THE CHANGE THAT OBAMA BROUGHT.

I heard my parents in the past refer to the rocket community as aerospace migrant workers and now I understand why and what they meant. They are a bunch of whiney losers who think they are special or above the average American, entitled to a handout. You people are the reason this country is so screwed up in the first place. I doubt you could last two months working a real job...

I agree it will hurt property values I hope to grab a house on the river!!! My house will be worthless but so will the new one yahoo

I was hoping that Obama would land at Patrick Air Force station
and be driven to KSC, so that the public could greet him! I
have my signs made. To bad, I guess he will come and go and
think we are all happy! 8,000 lost space jobs, converts to
24,000 Brevard County jobs. He cares nothing about the Space
Program, but we should not be surprised as he is totally
anti-American, and a socialist.

First off brevard is not white trailer trash, you are only saying that because you probably never lived here. I'm a new mom now and my daughter will never see a space shuttle go up in the middle of the night and have it light up the sky, never hear the rummble, and never hear the sound that it's makes when it comes home. I lived my whole life hearing those sounds, and seeing the shuttle go up during the day and at night. It's truly a shame that she'll never hear or see those things. I honestly can't believe some of you people, who look down on us and believe that we're looking for a hand out, WE'RE NOT!!!! You people don't see what Obama is tring to do. He's tring to down grade the U.S on our technology. I mean come on the russians. He doesn't care about the people. He said that he's going to try and crate jobs for us, but all he's doing is destroying jobs.
