No Focused Inspection Required For Heat Shield

NASA mission managers decided today that no focused inspection of Endeavour's heat shield will be required before the shuttle departs the International Space Station.

Engineers scoured over imagery from radar and ground tracking cameras, cameras on the shuttle and the space station, and an extensive heat shield survey on Tuesday and found no significant heat-shield damage.

A late inspection for micrometeorite and orbital debris hits -- which basically calls for a repeat of the Flight Day 2 inspection -- will be done after the shuttle departs the station and before atmospheric reentry.

Mission Control notified the shuttle astronauts when their wake-up call went up at 4:18 p.m.

Today's wake-up music was the theme from "2001: A Space Odyssey." It was selected for Mission Specialist Nicholas Patrick by his family.
