The future of the nation's human space exploration program will be the focus of a hearing in the U.S. Senate today as the head of a presidential panel testifies on Capitol Hill for the second consecutive day.

Norman Augustine, chairman of the U.S. Human Space Flight Plans Review Committee, is the sole witness scheduled to testify before the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.

U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, the senior Senator from Florida, and Kay Bailey Hutchison, the ranking member from Texas, both are members of the committee. And both are expected to raise concerns about the summary report the Augustine Committee presnted to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and NASA last week.

You can watch the hearing live here in The Flame Trench starting at 2:30 p.m. Simply click the NASA TV box on the right side of the page to launch our NASA TV viewer and live coverage.

No written testimony has been posted at the Senate committee's web site, but you can read Norman Augustine's testimony delivered to during a U.S. House of Representatives hearing on Tuesday.
