NASA releases latest jobs report

NASA released an updated job forecast report today.

Read the report here.
It's the latest in a series the agency must submit to Congress in connection with next year's planned retirement of the space shuttle fleet.

The report shows that the workforce at Kennedy Space Center should remain steady through the next fiscal year, but it doesn't revisit what will happen after the shuttle retirement. Earlier NASA estimates were that about 3,500 jobs would be lost at KSC.

NASA said they're waiting until a presidential panel finishing reviewing the future of NASA's human spaceflight program. The panel is expected to wrap up its work next month.

Last week, Lisa Rice, president of the Brevard Workforce Development Board Inc., said a report now being completed by the group is expected to show the shuttle's retirement could cost thousands more jobs in the area than previously expected.

As many as 6,000-7,000 jobs could be lost after 2010 at Kennedy Space Center because of the recession and concerns over the Augustine panel's work, Rice said.
