Watch It Live: Storms Might Push Back Launch Time

LIVE IMAGES: The images above are from NASA TV (left) and a live video feed at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (right), where the Delta IV rocket and a new weather satellite are poised for launch. They will refresh to the most up-to-the-minute image every 30 seconds.

BLOGGER NOTE, 5:57 PM: The range just went red as a result of violations of the cumulus clouds encroaching into an area within 10 miles of Launch Complex 37 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Delay to 6:30 p.m. expected.

An approaching thunderstorm is expected to sweep within 10 miles of the Delta IV rocket at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in the next 10 or 15 minutes, violating three key launch rules: lightning, cumulus clouds and anvil clouds in the launch area.

A planned 6:14 p.m. liftoff, consequently, might be delayed. But the storm cell is expected to pass through the area before the 7:14 p.m. end of tonight's launch window.

Launch Weather Officer Joel Tumbiolo said he expects the weather will clear in time to make an attempt about 6:30 p.m.
