A wobbly box of gyroscopes won't fit into another slot in the Hubble Space Telescope.
Atlantis spacewalkers Mike Massimino and Mike Good, who couldn't install the so-called Rate Sensor Unit in its intended slot, found it wouldn't fit into a second location either.
"It does feel a little wobbly, like the other one," Good said as he tried to bolt the unit into place.
Each unit contains two gyroscopes. Massimino was dispatched to pick up a spare unit of an older design.
It was not immediately clear how that older set of gyros would impact the telescope's long-term performance, but two of the new sets were installed successfully.
The spacewalk, scheduled to last six-and-a-half hours, is running about an hour behind.
