Colbert on the International Space Station?

Is it going to be Colbert?

Find out Tuesday when NASA announces the winning name for the agency's newest module for the International Space Station.

The space agency held an online poll asking people to vote for the name. Voters were able to choose from one of four NASA options or offer their own. Enter Stephen Colbert of the Comedy Central.

He urged viewers of "The Colbert Report" to vote for Colbert, as opposed to some of NASA's suggestions, such as Serenity.

"The node naming poll was organic and took on a life of its own," said Bill Gerstenmaier, associate administrator for Space Operations at NASA Headquarters in Washington. "We received more than a million entries, in large part because social media Web sites and television programs, such as 'The Colbert Report,' took an interest. This spread overall awareness of the International Space Station."

NASA plans to announce the winning name Tuesday on "The Colbert Report." Astronaut Sunita "Suni" Williams will make the announcement. The program airs at 11:30 p.m.

Node 3 is a pressurized module that will provide room for many of the space station's life support systems. Attached to the node is the cupola, a one-of-a-kind work station with six windows around the sides and one on top. Node 3 is targeted for launch in late 2009.

About the Images: The Cupola, another module for the United States segment of the International Space Station. With 360-degree windows, it will serve as a literal skylight to control some of the most sophisticated robotics ever built.
