Shuttle launch reset for Sunday

Mission Control just informed the crew of the International Space Station that the shuttle launch has been reset for no earlier than Sunday.

NASA has set a news conference for 6:30 p.m., where it will explain what happened during today's fueling and go over its options for Sunday and Monday launch tries. You can watch the briefing live here by clicking the image above or clicking here.

A Sunday launch would come at 7:43 p.m. Today's launch was scrubbed just before the end of fueling. A gaseous hydrogen leak during the tanking caused NASA to stop fueling the shuttle, examine its data and ultimately stop the countdown.

The agency looked over options for flying Friday or Saturday. We expect to hear details during the news conference about the repair plans. You can read about the specifics of the problem, pictures of the hardware in question and an analysis of launch options in a post from earlier this afternoon. Click here to read it.

After Monday, the shuttle will have to stand down until April. NASA could not try again until April 7 because of an already-scheduled Soyuz mission delivering a new crew to the space station. The shuttle and another Soyuz can't be at the outpost at the same time. Even launching this weekend could force some adjustments to the length of the currently-planned shuttle mission. More to come.
