Friends & Family Petition To Keep Griffin

You might have seen the Associated Press story over the holidays about a personal plea to keep Mike Griffin on as NASA Administrator. His wife, Rebecca, sent an e-mail to friends and family urging them to support the veteran rocket scientist as the incoming Obama Administration calculates its plans for the nation's space agency.

Check out the article here: Friends Fight For Griffin.

Griffin supporters now can go here to signal their support: Keep Mike Petition.

The Obama Transition Team is expected to make a decision on the NASA Administrator and NASA Deputy Administrator slots in the near future, perhaps before the Jan. 20 inauguration.

We're interested in what you think. Click on the comments link below to weigh in on the issue. Should Obama keep Griffin? Or should he nominate a new NASA Administrator? And if so, who? Bill Nelson.

I am a big fan of Mike Griffin.

He has made dozens of key decisions involving the return to flight of the shuttle, and the completion of the ISS and other issues, all of which seem to have been correct. He has raised morale and performance inside NASA and its contractors at a time when by almost all measures both should have been faltering badly. He is doing a superb job and I don't want America to lose him.

Having said this, there is no doubt that some of Mr. Griffin's remarks during the recent Presidential election campaign and since Election Day have been inappropriate and intemperate. They have caused surprise and raised concerns in the non-space community while needlessly embarrassing the President-elect and undercutting the authority of those he has appointed to advise him on NASA's future.

Luckily, Mr. Obama has shown not only a keen understanding of the importance to the nation of a bold and inspiring space program, but has also proved repeatedly that he is flexible, open to a wide range of ideas and able to work well with those who do not support him politically.

With this in mind, I've been telling friends for weeks that I expect a scenario in which Mr. Obama takes Mr. Griffin to the proverbial woodshed, but then keeps him on as NASA Administrator.

More specifically, I hope the President-elect will meet with Mr. Griffin in an attempt to identify, reduce and eliminate any policy differences between the two men -- and at the same time tries to smooth over and minimize the political and personality differences which are now obvious.

If this face-to-face goes well, then I believe Mr. Obama will ultimately choose to keep Mike Griffin where he is because there is simply no one better to run NASA.

He's 100% against extending the Shuttle Program.

Mike Griffin is embarrassing the agency with his job saving antics - and his wife's odd behavior makes this bad situation even worse. Its time to have a person of integrity in the Administrator's suite - one without a cheerleader for a spouse.

Get rid of him.
Getting his wife to beg for his job. Has he no pride?
He should of told his wife to stop it, but he didn't.
What a creepy guy.

No one is perfect but Griffin is the best we have to run NASA.
