An Italian radar reconnaissance satellite is scheduled to launch aboard a United Launch Alliance Delta 2 rocket at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California at 10:28 p.m. EDT tonight.
The Cosmo 3 satellite is the third in a series of four spacecraft that will use a synthetic aperture radar to keep tabs on the Mediterranean Basin for the Italian Defense Ministry. The satellites also are being used by civilian Italian agencies for environmental studies of the region.

The weather forecast for launch, meanwhile, could not be better. Air Force meteorologists say there is absolutely no chance -- zero -- that conditions would prevent an on-time launch.
