Atlantis Rollout Still Expected Saturday

Shuttle program managers today continue to track the progress of Tropical Storm Hanna toward Central Florida, and won't make a decision on when to roll Atlantis to its launch pad until this evening.

A Saturday rollout from the Vehicle Assembly Building is still considered likely, but workers remain ready to move the shuttle as early as 12:01 a.m. Thursday if weather conditions improve.

A decision is expected after a briefing today at 5:30 p.m. Check The Flame Trench later for an update.

The National Hurricane Center's 11 a.m. report shows Cape Canaveral just outside the storm's forecast cone, but still with the potential for strong winds at the spaceport if the track shifts slighly to the west.

A Saturday rollout would leave NASA with one contingency day left before a planned Oct. 8 launch.
