Live in orbit: Spacewalkers move to tasks

Inspecting the Harmony hatch, preparing the footrest in the payload bay.

Rex Walheim and Stan Love have begun their first tasks. Love has picked up the robot arm footrest and Walheim has moved to the Harmony module hatch and inspected it. It had no debris.

Leland Melvin is moving the space station robot arm toward Love in the payload bay.

Love will ride the robot arm and carry a grapple fixture that he and Walheim will attach to the Columbus module. The pair then will prepare the module to be grappled by the robot arm and moved to a hatch on the space station's starboard side.

The 102nd spacewalk to build the ISS began at 9:13 a.m. EST and will last 6.5 hours.

Walheim wears a spacesuit with solid red bands. His helmet camera is No. 16. Love's suit has broken red stripes. His helmet camera is No. 18.
