Live in orbit: Spacewalkers close airlock

A French astronaut will enter the module Tuesday morning.

"The hatch is latched and locked," said spacewalker Rex Walheim, closing himself and Stan Love in the crew airlock at 5:11 p.m. EST.

The spacewalkers began hooking up their spacesuits to power and water supplies and began repressurizing the airlock.

Installing a balky grapple fixture on Columbus caused more than an hour delay in the scheduled 6.5-hour spacewalk, which ran two minutes short of eight hours.

With the 102nd spacewalk for ISS constuction and maintenance, a total of 639 hours and 33 minutes have been spent on spacewalks.

Rookie spacewalker Stan Love totaled 7 hours and 58 minutes working in space.

Walheim, on his third spacewalk, has a total of 22 hours and 13 minutes of spacewalking time.

The mission's second spacewalk will be Wednesday. Walheim and German Hans Schlegel, who missed this spacewalk due to illness, will replace a nitrogen tank on the space station.
