Live at KSC: Atlantis gassed up at pad
Click for countdown status video.
NASA engineers have finished fueling shuttle Atlantis' external tank and a suspect fuel sensor system passed initial tests and appears to be working properly.
NASA's Final Inspection Team is headed out to the launch pad to carry out an extensive survey of the shuttle's external tank and the foam insulation that covers its aluminum lithium hull.
NASA's Close-Out Crew -- the team that will help the Atlantis astronauts board the shuttle -- is on its way to the "white room" at the end of the Orbiter Access Arm on the 195-foot-level of the launch gantry at pad 39A. The astronauts are scheduled to depart crew quarters at about 10:55 a.m.
NASA TV coverage of the countdown is being webcast live here in The Flame Trench. Simply click the link below the image above to launch our NASA TV viewer.
A cold front is continuing to drift toward the central Florida area, and it is expected to bring rain, and possibly thunderstorms, to NASA's shuttle launch site around mid-afternoon.
NASA managers are hanging on to hopes that the front will slow or stall, leaving skies over Kennedy Space Center clear enough for launch at 2:45 p.m.
