Rose heads into space
A rose named after the Tournament of Roses is scheduled to be on the next mission of the NASA space shuttle Atlantis. The rose was grown in the Wrigley Gardens at the Tournament of Roses Association headquarters in Pasadena, then dried in preparation for the shuttle mission. The rose was selected by Bayer Advanced Garden Expert Lance Walheim, and will be one of the personal items taken into space on STS-122 by his brother, astronaut Rex Walheim, who will be the lead spacewalker during the mission.
Lance Walheim is also the author of more than 30 gardening books, including Roses for Dummies.
