Adventure aviator Steve Fossett still missing
Steve Fossett remains missing for several days now. A search continues in and around Nevada. He apparently has been missing since taking off in a single-engine plane from a Nevada ranch sometime Monday evening.
Fossett is a famed adventurer and one of his most recent headline-grabbing escapades was based out of the Kennedy Space Center's Shuttle Landing Facility. Fossett took off from KSC's unique shuttle runway on what turned out to be the longest nonstop flight without refueling. He made it around the world once and then crossed the Atlantic again on the 2006 flight, which was sponsored by British tycoon Richard Branson. (Click on the Michael Brown image of the two of them above, during their stay at KSC, to see a larger version). His total distance: 26,389 miles.
The Associated Press and other news outlets are reporting that Fossett was reported missing by a friend after his plane did not return as scheduled from a flight Monday evening. The FAA says he did not file a flight and a search was underway by the Civil Air Patrol. Branson has since joined the effort, saying Wednesday that he was trying to enlist the aid of satellite imagery from the past couple days to see if somehow the plane could be spotted.

It's a shame there wasn't a Kennedy on board so that the entire Army and Marines would be searching for him.
