Endeavour's crew woke three minutes early to the sound of "Learn to Fly," performed by the Foo Fighters.
"And a special 'Good morning' to you, Al, this morning," said capsule communicator Shannon Lucid.
Drew thanked Lucid. "Thanks also to my niece, who turns 18 tomorrow and to her mother, Courtney, who's birthday is today," added Drew, a former Air Force helicopter test pilot.
The crew was waked just a bit earlier than planned due to communications concerns, as the space station was headed for an area where communication is not possible.
Spacewalkers Dave Williams and Clay Anderson head outside the shuttle at 10:01 a.m. EDT. Their tasks include installation of a wireless antennae, mounting stands for the orbiter extension boom to be stored on future missions and retrieval of a materials exposure experiment.
Transfer of the remaining cargo will be finished today, as Endeavour likely will undock a day early on Sunday and return to Earth a day early on Tuesday to allow the workers in mission control to bring the shuttle home before Hurricane Dean threatens the Texas coast on Wednesday.
