A NASA carrier aircraft and the orbiter Atlantis are en route from Nebraska to Fort Campbell in Kentucky today as the agency continues an effort to return the spaceship to its Kennedy Space Center homeport.
The modified 747 and Atlantis are expected to take off from Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska around 9 a.m. EDT. A weather briefing will be held in Kentucky and managers then will decide whether to stay overnight or continue to KSC. There's still a chance the carrier aircraft and Atlantis will return to KSC later today.
