ISS astronaut finishes Boston Marathon

International Space Station astronaut Sunita Williams has finished running the length of the Boston Marathon, from a couple hundred miles above the ground.

Williams is running on the space station treadmill on an extended version of the kind of exercise regimen that the outpost residents follow every day.

She started a little later than her counterparts on the ground in Massachusetts, but did cover the full distance over the course of the morning and afternoon.

Her team on orbit and on the ground

"We want to take a moment to congratulate you on your marathon," one of the ground controllers called up later this afternoon.

"Thanks. It was fun!" Williams said back.

Of course, while Williams ran the same distance as her cohorts on the Earth, she did not endure all of the same conditions. Those folks ran up and down hills and faced other conditions not present in orbit. Certainly, Williams got better weather than the foul storm weather that the folks in Boston ran through.
