Two Congressman today are asking President Bush to fire NASA Inspector General Robert Cobb, saying they are disturbed by the findings of an independent probe into allegations that the agency's top internal investigator neglected his duties.
Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Florida, and U.S. Rep. Brad Miller, D-N.C., wrote the White House on Monday saying Cobb "must be removed for the good of NASA and the nation, and we are requesting that you do so."
The White House has not responded yet, and NASA is withholding comment until the investigative report on Cobb is finalized and released.
The findings were to be provided to key members of Congress today, but the full report is not scheduled to be released to the public yet. Cobb said he could not comment on the investigation.
While the full, final report is not yet available, Nelson's office issued a press release and the letter to the White House.
In those releases, the senator said that the investigators concluded that Cobb became too close with former NASA Administrator Sean O'Keefe and failed to do his job of independently monitoring wrongdoing inside the space agency.
If we get the full report later today, we will share it here.
